History

Daryl Porter Jr. was born in McComb, Mississippi, where he graduated from McComb High School. In 2013, Daryl earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Mississippi.

In order to further his education, Daryl Porter Jr. attended Mississippi College School of Law, where he was able to obtain a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. During his law student years, Porter clerked in the office of the Mississippi Attorney General.

Before Daryl Porter Jr. had a seat at the House of Representatives, he served Summit, Mississippi as a member of the town council. This meant Daryl would be among one of the youngest officials to win the election in Summit, Mississippi.

Additionally, with collaborative efforts from the board and the mayor, Porter worked to implent a more progressive system in Summit. This would include preservation of Summit’s history, improvements to wasewater systems, and improvements to infrastructure.

By promoting events downtown, Daryl was able to get help from local development groups to preserve the historical downtown area of Summit. Apart from being on the town council, he was also a member of Summit Missionary Baptist, where he was a trustee and a junior deacon. As well as being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Daryl founded a mentoring group in order to help guide young men to bettering themselves.

In November 2019, he won the election for a seat amongst the Mississippi House of Representatives. Later on, Daryl assumed office on January 7th, 2020.

Today, Porter works as a licensed personal injury attorney in Ridgeland, Mississippi at the office of Pepper & Odom. His representation stands equal for clients of all ages, backgrounds and occupations throughout Mississippi.
