Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Injury

We all know summertime is when we seem to do the most work and have the most heat. Which makes sense more people are injured during July, August, and September than any other part of the year.[1] In those months of 2015 alone, 2,948 reported injuries occurred and there is no telling how many unreported injuries occurred. This clearly shows, as a Mississippi worker, you are more likely to sustain a work related injury during the summertime than any other part of the year.

If you are hurt on the job, there are steps you must take to help your workers’ compensation claim.

  • First, seek medical attention immediately for life threatening on the job injuries.
  • Report your workers’ compensation injury immediately to your supervisor or employer. Failing to do so could result in your claim being denied.
  • If your injuries are not life threatening, you have the right to go to your doctor. You are not required to go the doctor recommended or suggested by the employer or their workers’ compensation insurance carrier, you can pick your own doctor
  • Finally, contact one of our skilled and experienced Workers’ Compensation Attorneys. We will make sure you get all the compensation you are entitled to.

There are some things an injured worker should not do if they are injured on the job.

First, never sign any paperwork without consulting an attorney. A trick often pulled on injured workers starts when the employer gives the hurt man or woman a stack of papers and says as soon as you sign these we will get you to a doctor. Employers will often slip a choice of physician form in with the paperwork asking you to select their doctor to treat you as the injured employee. Signing that document could waive your right to your choice of physician. Another thing commonly requested by an employer of a hurt worker, is a written or recorded statement. They may use that against you later in your Mississippi Workers’ Compensation injury claim, so do not give one.
