Vehicle Crash Safety

Vehicle Crash Safety

In an earlier post on Vehicle Crash Safety, I explained how All Vehicles Are Not created equally when it comes to safety. Now, I am providing you with a link to an video I found interesting.

In the video watch a partial head on collision between a 2015 Nissan Tsuru and a 2016 Nissan Versa. The  Nissan Tsuru is basically a renamed Nissan Sentra designed in 1991 and sold new in Mexico today.  The Nissan Versa is the cheapest model produced and sold in the United States.

Improvements in Vehicle Safety

This is a perfect example of how far vehicle safety engineering has come over the years. The materials that vehicles are made of is better when it comes to safety. The design of the vehicles are also safer. New vehicles are designed to disperse the force of an impact away from the driver. Notice the impact on the crash dummy in the red car (the older design) verses the silver car (the newer design).

Safety Ratings

The safety rating of vehicles should be a factor when determining which new vehicle you purchase. This is important to parents who have young drivers and parents who carry around small children in their vehicles.

The auto accident attorneys at Pepper and Odom Law firm see the effects of motor vehicle collisions every day. The improvement in the design and manufacture of newer model vehicles doesn’t stop at safety. Newer vehicles also perform better and generally get better gas mileage.

Property Damage and Personal Injuries

Usually, when a person is involved in an accident the insurance company will pay the fair market value for any vehicle that they design to total out. The way they determine if the vehicle is totaled out depends on the extent of the damage versus the value of the vehicle. If it will cost more to repair the vehicle than the vehicle is worth, then the insurance company will determine the vehicle is a total loss.
