There are approximately 800 reported work related injuries every month in Mississippi. However, numerous work-related injuries may go unreported. If you or someone you know is hurt on the job, you may be entitled to Workers’ Compensation benefits. With a few exceptions, businesses with 5 or more employees are required to carry workers’ compensation insurance, or be subject to civil actions. If the businesses do carry Workers Compensation Insurance, then the exclusive remedy law does not allow a direct civil action law suit against the business.
Hurt on the Job
If you are hurt on the job, you need to immediately report your injury to your supervisor or someone in charge. Workers’ Compensation benefits include paying for your medical treatment and you may be entitled to receive up to two thirds of your average weekly wage.
Even if your claim is admitted and you are currently receiving benefits, you are likely not receiving all the benefits to which you are entitled.
